The Artist...

     Johnny Pate, a local Fort Worth artist, is an Native American descended from the Choctaw, Chickasaw and Cherokee. His artwork is reflective of his Native American heritage, his interest in the culture of the worlds indeginous people and Texas' western culture. Many of his works are based on the spirituality and mythology of our nations Native American cultural diversity.

     Mr. Pate is a multi-talented and versatile artist whose works range from the realistic to abstract. He began his artistic career at the age of 15 working for the Denton Record-Chronicle Newspaper as a political cartoonist and caricaturist. He has been active as a sculptor, sculptural ceramist, graphic designer, flimmaker, set designer, production designer, book illustrator, political cartoonist, caricaturist, multi-media muralist, painter and printmaker.

     Inspiration for his art is derived from his studies and travel in the United States and abroad. An avid world-traveler, he has studied the art, history, culture, religion and mythology of indigenous people from around the world. His travels have taken him to Canada, Mexico, South America, the Azores, Caribbean, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Greece, Crete, Egypt, England, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland and Portugal.

      Johnny has worked on varied documentaries including "Tourist Destination Videos" for Radisson, Sheraton, and Worthington Hotels, Sonoma Wine Country and Wind Star Cruise Line. His video on the "Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth" was the Award Winning Video in Vancouver, B.C. Johnny's documentary of the maiden voyage of the "Wind Star" sailing ship from La Harve, France to the French Antilles won honorable mention in the New York Film Festival.  Mr. Pate was Production Designer, Set Designer and Artist in Abamedia's feature film, "World Without Waves", that appeared in the Russian Film Festival of 2004. The film won "Best Feature Film" in the Santa Fe Film Festival. He is currently working on a documentary on Native Americans that has been accepted for the Sundance Film Festival for 2005.
